Rain becomes an amazing spell with Winter Blast, Global Cooling, and air damage nukes. Water and Air magic is more effective at freezing and stunning enemies for denying their turns. Fire is really good for maximizing damage output, as it can light people on fire for a DoT in addition to lowering their fire resistance for future turns. Spell effects that scale off of conditions are also really good. Friendly healing spells will automatically target and damage undead enemies (Healing Ritual). Acid cancels out with Fortify (they each remove the other).
Peace of Mind cancels out with maddening effects and taunts. There's a ton of extra little interactions that are sometimes specific to enemies and ways that skills interact together and with certain status conditions. Or how "strike X times" abilities interact much better with 2-hand weapon than a single-hand or dual-wielder, or how dual wield attacks do much more with Whirlwind and dagger abilities. Same thing here, I have almost 600 hours in and I'm still learning which effects can splash into friendly fire, like enemies who bleed fire into a pool of poison setting off an explosion.
